windshield getting tinted

Today we will be looking at front windshield tint mistakes that the average car enthusiast will make. The five mistakes covered here occur quite often and are considered to be the five most common errors that a consumer is able to easily sidestep.

1) Attempting to do it yourself to save cash.

This is certainly a common one. This is true not only with window tinting but with various consumer installations these days. It seems that a quick mobile search on the youtube app will oftentimes turn the average consumer into a DIY expert.

Let’s look at some common pitfalls that pseudo, DIY experts might fall into! We’ve got tinting material installed incorrectly from the inside of the vehicle. We might accidentally buy an illegally shaded tinting product and apply it to our front window. That situation will oftentimes result in tickets and/or fines. The worst possible situation is an incorrect installation that generates artifacts that might block the driver’s view! Avoiding that alone is worth hiring a professional in my opinion. Some of these DIY mistakes might wind up resulting in an entire windshield replacement! These replacements are far, far more costly than most tint jobs.

2) Choosing an installer based solely on the price.

Here we go again with the same situation essentially as discussed above! A consumer spends good money on tint material only to base the installation of said material around the most dollar saving strategy. No, NO, NO! If this is the cheapest guy in town, how do you even know if he installs the actual material that you pay for? Also, while the cheap installer might offer cost-effective labor, how far is his standard above that of the aforementioned DIY consumer? A bit above it; that’s a given for sure. Who’s not to say that a cost-cutting installer will not generate the type of issues that might present themselves much later on down the road (No pun intended?) At what cost will they present themselves? It could very likely be the cost of a total windshield replacement if you are not careful!

3) Using low-quality tint products.

It is certainly important to understand that window tinting materials will often serve practical, as well as aesthetic, purposes. The novelty/appearance of being tinted is oftentimes paired with the practical purpose of having a cooler car that experiences less UV sun ray penetration. The car is cooler and the upholstery and dashboard will hopefully hold up much better. After considering all of this, it is fine to take a moment to marvel at how cool your new windshield tinting looks!

4) Falling a victim to bad information (i.e. rumors and myths.)

A lot of people talk, either at car shows or on web message boards, to other auto owners regarding window tinting. It is important to remember some of the following misconceptions that might be found floating around.

No, your tint will not reduce the blue book value of your automobile. No, window tinting is NOT ILLEGAL! It is allowed yet simply restricted by guidelines on a state-by-state basis. Window film will NOT make any car window either less/not breakable! Your window will break just as easily as it would have before the tenting was applied. Some carriers of low end only products might also claim that window film materials have no purchase warranties. This is untrue as certain higher-end options do.

5) Not taking proper care of your freshly tinted windows.

Tint curing can vary in length from three days to a month! Three days will be the typical standard for specialized owner care, however. It is a good idea to refrain from cleaning, touching, or especially, rolling down any tinted windows during this three day period. With your front windshield, rolling down is not a consideration, but touching it certainly is! If you can get your product applied prior to a few days off from work, you might find the three-day period easier to get along with.

By reviewing five of the most common windshield tint mistakes that occur in the consumer market, it is hoped that you are better able to avoid them appropriately! Just remember to set a respectable budget aside, take care of your newly tinted window and stay clear of misinformation.
